Will my root canal hurt?

If you have a dental infection that needs to be treated with root canal therapy, chances are good that you are in considerable pain. Unfortunately, many people associate the pain of the infection with the root canal itself, which is one of the reasons behind this valuable treatment's painful reputation.

Despite what you may have seen in the movies or on TV, dentists are not mean, cruel people who want to cause pain. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. We want to prevent pain and treat any pain that exists as quickly as possible, and your comfort is our top priority. Root canal therapy is a treatment that allows us to do exactly that – relieve your pain and restore the function of your tooth.

Before beginning your procedure, we will make sure that you are completely numb. Once your treatment is complete and the anesthetic starts to wear off, you may experience some discomfort. This is because it will take time for your immune system to realize that the infection is gone and stop the inflammatory response. We can give you medicine to help with this, but most people find that over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatories are quite helpful. Soon, the immune response will die down, and you will feel much better.

If you have any questions or concerns about a treatment that we have recommended, don't hesitate to ask. Give us a call today!
